City of Wolverhampton Council

“On behalf of everyone across the City of Wolverhampton Council Telecare service we’d like to thank Gillian and the TSA team for all the support and expertise with the development and delivery of the training programme for our Telecare and call monitoring service.

Our timetable for the transfer of our call monitoring service to Wolverhampton Homes is tight and we really do appreciate all your efforts in helping us keep our plans on track!  The training programme you put together for us really was pitch perfect and feedback from everyone who attended has been excellent.

We look forward to working with you very soon on the post-delivery stage and training for all supervisors.

It has been a pleasure also getting to know you all.”

Lancashire County Council

Lancashire County Council commissioned TSA for 12 days of training to increase telecare referrals, increase the use of telecare and improve perception of telecare among front-line staff.

112 staff attended training and 100% said they are now referring more often, increasing their average rating of telecare from 6.5 to 8.8 out of 10.

Most said they strongly agreed the learning would benefit service users, 98% would recommend the training to colleagues and several commented that the training should be mandatory.

Lancashire are now contracting TSA for another 8 days of training “due to the high quality, effectiveness and impact of the training”

Since starting the training, 33% of referrals have come from the staff trained, even though they comprise only 13% of the workforce who can make referrals.

Although the initial costs of developing the training have used some of the profits generated through the contract, TSA now has a training package that can easily be adapted for other members.  The package concentrates on technical knowledge, understanding the potential and limitations of TEC and the skills necessary to correctly assess situations, risks, needs, solutions and outcomes for service users. The ability to offer this combination of applied knowledge with strategic context is a unique asset for TSA and a benefit to members.

Portsmouth City Council

In July 2016, TSA designed and delivered a bespoke 'Assessing for Telecare' two-day training course to Portsmouth City Council’s telecare team.

The training supported staff in developing knowledge, skills and understanding so that telecare and other assistive living technologies are integrated into personalised assessments, support plans and services, thereby increasing the uptake of telecare services.

Feedback from the group was positive and everyone felt the training had achieved the desired outcomes. They left feeling more confident to carry out their new roles and provide support to service users.

Hayley Murch, Telecare and Home Safety Manager, said: "Over the last two days Gill (the trainer) has incorporated a lot of thought-provoking ideas that I will take back to incorporate in the service. We will definitely be able to enhance and improve the service to our customers by using the training we have been given. Gill was a fantastic trainer, made the training very clear and I look forward to working with her (TSA) more closely in the future as we try to improve and enhance our telecare service”

Alfi Telecare, Cornwall Council

“Gillian recently came to conduct the TSA Assessing for Telecare one day course with Alfi Telecare in Cornwall.  It was offered to Alfi staff and Adult Social Care and NHS colleagues.  It was attended by a mix of telecare operator, administrative and field staff alongside social workers, case coordinators and occupational therapists. This was a great mixed group to have and Gillian's masterful delivery meant that everyone in the room was not just engaged but were all actively participating during the day.

A lot of ground is covered in the agenda but followed a natural pathway which was easy to digest.  The agnostic approach to the types of equipment described and the toolkits and handouts were superb in fleshing out the concepts.  A great value for money course and I would recommend it as a refresher for more experienced staff and powerful introduction to assessing for those colleagues referring for telecare services”
