Putting the Care back into Telecare


Developed by TSA this range of training packages has been designed to support good quality service delivery under the TSA Qulity Standards Framework.  Each training session aims to develop skills, knowledge and understanding, build expertise and raise awareness for how Technology Enabled Care can support the delivery of integrated services to enable health and wellbeing and maintain independent living for service users and customers.

Supporting people living with Dementia 1 day - Introductory course

Overview

This one-day course offers a structured yet flexible approach to build knowledge of the skills needed in the provision of Assistive Technology when delivering a service for a client living with Dementia. Improving staff confidence and ensuring a person-centred approach is taken to the safety of the service user at all times.  This course explores in depth the role of good communication skills in achieving a positive outcome for the service user and sustaining good relationships with other services.

 

Prerequisites

Suitable for staff who want to develop knowledge and enhance understanding of the essential skills needed to provide good quality services for individuals living with Dementia and the importance of taking a person-centred approach at all times. 

 

Objectives

Delegates will be able to explain how one person’s Dementia journey is very much an individual journey and describe how using relevant technology appropriately and at the right time, can support the management of risks and reduce the potential for harm for service users, carers and families, improve quality of life and support them to live independently for longer.

  • Explain what good customer service and communication skills are in TECS, and how to use them to ensure a good outcome for the service user

  • Discuss the role that TEC can play in managing situations and reducing the risk of harm

  • Understanding the importance of person centred approach when delivering TEC to a person living with Dementia

Supporting People Living with Dementia- Advanced course

Overview

In addition to the regular course this advanced module looks further in to the wider concept of technology, pulling in the knowledge and experience already gained in the field by looking at specific case study scenarios from course delegates.

Knowledge 

  • Explain the role of Technology Enabled Care services in supporting people living with dementia to live independently with greater choice & control, managing their health & wellbeing needs, reducing risk, staying safe & achieving positive outcomes
  • Over view of Dementia and how it impacts on the individual.
  • Looking at individual case studies from delegates own case load

Assessing for Telecare 1 day

Overview

This one day course offers a structured yet flexible approach to develop and embed understanding of technology enabled care services and how the appropriate use of TEC solutions can greatly reduce the risk of harm, encourage self-management of health and wellbeing and promote independence for individuals.  This course explores the issues of balancing needs with positive risk taking whilst ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of individuals is maintained.

 

Prerequisites

Suitable for all TECS providers of installation services and any professionals involved in the delivery of care and support services where assessment of needs and the delivery of integrated care is a key factor, including health, care, housing, emergency services, hospital teams, re-ablement teams

 

Objectives

Delegates will go on a journey through the eyes of a customer and be able to explain how and when telecare and other assistive technologies can be used to promote choice and control, reduce the risk of harm and encourage self-management of health and wellbeing needs, improve quality of life to continue to live independently, in line with expectations of TSA Quality Standards Framework.

  • Explain the role of Technology Enabled Care services in supporting people to live independently with greater choice & control, managing their health & wellbeing needs, reducing risk, staying safe & achieving positive outcomes

  • Describe the types of technology solutions available, relevant to a variety of personal, environmental and safety needs

Assessing for Needs & Risk

  • Explain how accurately assessing service users’ needs ensures an appropriate technology solution is provided to reduce the risk of harm for a service user & enable a positive outcome can be achieved in accordance with TSA Quality Standards Framework

  • Evaluate the on-going effectiveness of a technology solution where there are indications that it is not meeting the intended need or where further support may be required

Ethics and keeping people safe

  • Explain the role of ethics & keeping people safe in technology enabled care services in accordance with TSA Quality Standards Framework


 


 

Call Handling for TEC 1 day 

Members from £625 Non members from £875

 

Overview

This one day course offers a structured yet flexible approach to build knowledge of the skills needed in the provision of consistent and effective good quality call handling practices, improving staff confidence and ensuring a person-centred approach is taken to the safety of the service user at all.  This course explores in depth the role of good communication skills in achieving a positive outcome for the service user and sustaining good relationships with other services.

 

Prerequisites

Suitable for all staff involved in the delivery of call handling services, existing staff or new, within TEC monitoring services where call handling is a core provision, or partner agencies wishing to build knowledge to support partnership working.

 

Objectives

Develop knowledge and enhance understanding of the essential skills needed to provide good quality and consistent call handling practices, and the importance of taking a person-centred approach at all times. 

 

Develop understanding of how call handling activities support the management of risks and reduce the potential for harm for service users, carers and families.

Call Handling Techniques

  • Explain what good customer service and communication skills are in TECS, and how to use them to ensure a good outcome for the service user – A telecare monitoring centre is not a ‘Call Centre’

  • Discuss the role of the call handler in managing situations and reducing the risk of harm

Risk & Consequences

  • Discuss the risks and the consequences when things go wrong

  • Explain the steps required to minimise risks of things going wrong

  • Explain the role of Ethics and keeping people safe in Technology Enabled Care Services

 


 

Training designed in line with TSA Quality Standards Framework

These sessions are designed to be delivered as face to face training to operational teams, commissioners, health and social care professionals, voluntary sector, home care providers or people involved in providing services within the technology enabled care industry.  Designed for up to 15 delegates and priced per session.  Larger groups can be accommodated at an additional cost.

Training is designed in line with TSA Quality Standards Framework and establishes consistent good practise across all TEC activities.
