On a call a family member may inform you that they make all the decisions for their loved one, that they have a power of attorney.

Do you understand what it means?

  • Can enduring powers of attorney still be used?
  • Lasting powers of attorney for financial affairs – what do these cover?
  • Lasting powers of attorney for health and care – what do these cover?
  • The process
  • Who can apply?
  • Who governs lasting powers of attorney?
  • Reporting concerns
  • Cancelling a lasting power of attorney
  • Is it ok to ask for proof – what proof should I get?
  • Is there a central record of lasting powers of attorney?
  • What happens if there is no lasting power of attorney document and a vulnerable person is unable to make their own decisions?
