Over the years, I have worked for private, public, and community interest organisations on both the supplier and operator sides of the TEC market, affording me a broad perspective of the industry. Throughout my entire working life, I have dedicated myself to assisting others. Starting in Business Development in the leisure industry, I participated in new site openings and facilitated sales and marketing growth. More recently, I've been engaged in Business Development within the TEC sector for nearly a decade.

The recent transition from analogue to digital has posed challenges for Alarm Response Centres (ARCs) with varying and sometimes conflicting information depending on the source. Some suppliers assert that analogue will suffice until they begin marketing digital devices, after which they reverse their stance. Some digital devices were initially conceptualised as hybrid models, making them somewhat outdated. Some claim superior resilience but continue to harbour a single point of failure.

Some are reliant on 3G networks, which, according to Ofcom, are slated to be phased out by mobile providers this year and next. The process of switching from analogue to digital involves numerous behind-the-scenes steps, particularly when managing devices to begin using SCAIP (ts50134-9), which doesn't appear to be well-documented. It would be prudent to check with your providers to see if they are capable of bulk device updates, transitioning current digital-ready devices from analogue programming to digital, including the unique device identifiers needed to ensure accurate call matching, without necessitating further manual edits.

It's also important to ensure that the SIM cards in the devices are being properly managed by the suppliers so they can accommodate the transition to digital SCAIP calling. All these complications led me to believe that a more comprehensive solution must be out there, one that's superior to either the ‘box and button’ method or a device that requires recharging every other day.

Consequently, I'm now employed by a business that offers the first true innovation I've seen in nearly a decade in this industry, designed and built in the UK. The primary issue with TEC is user compliance; estimates for pendant wearing hover around 10-20%, with no means of verifying usage. Acticheck boasts an adoption/wear rate of nearly 90% and provides data on when bands are not worn.

This rate is significantly bolstered by a one-year battery life and sealed design that enables the device to be worn even during bathing. This offers 400-500% more protection daily for the user, aligning perfectly with our ultimate goal: genuinely aiding people in maintaining independence at home for an extended period. It's essential to prioritise the user in this narrative and to provide them with a solution that directly addresses their needs.

Every ARC has stories of users found by family members lying on the floor because they weren't wearing their pendants at the time. Even those who do usually wear their devices often remove them at night or when bathing. Not to mention the numerous daily calls reminding users to charge their devices, again without certainty whether they're actually using them.

However, with Acticheck's innovative 'I'm OK' checks, fall detection, and 'Family & Friends first' approach, combined with the user's ability to cancel a false alert, we can offer a truly person-centred product. This provides up to five times more protection daily and allows the vast majority of alerts to be managed by the user's personal care circle, with ARC backup when needed.

A genuinely integrated approach.
