Overview:
Since our last sector-wide update in January 2025, TSA has been actively engaging with the implications of Virgin Media O2’s (VMO2) proposed 2G network restrictions and their potential impact on the TEC sector. This upcoming webinar provides key updates from TSA’s efforts to ensure the safety and wellbeing of individuals in receipt of TEC services across the UK.

Purpose:
To update the Technology Enabled Care (TEC) sector on critical developments related to VMO2’s 2G switch off and outline the strategic actions TSA has taken to assess risk, advocate for safeguarding, and protect the digital switchover timeline.

Key Points to be Covered:

  1. Understanding the Risk:
TSA has undertaken a comprehensive assessment of how VMO2’s proposed 2G restrictions could impact telecare users. Given the reliance of many analogue devices on legacy networks, any premature disruption posed a serious safety risk to individuals dependent on these services.
  2. Oversight and Sector Advocacy:
TSA has worked to establish strong oversight mechanisms and direct dialogue with stakeholders to ensure no changes to the VMO2 network proceed without adequate protection for vulnerable users.
  3. Preserving the Digital Switchover Momentum:
A key focus has been ensuring that any risk mitigation efforts do not inadvertently stall the sector’s progress toward the digital switchover. TSA has balanced urgent risk response with a longer-term commitment to digital transformation.

Audience:
Local authorities, Housing Associations, service providers, TEC manufacturers, commissioners, and digital transformation leads.

Outcome:
Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the current risk landscape, the measures in place to protect users, and the steps they may need to take to prepare for network changes.
