Delta Wellbeing has strengthened its community response fleet with the addition of a new Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) to help support vulnerable individuals and improve patient flow across Carmarthenshire.
A second vehicle will also be added later this year, further expanding capacity.
The investment supports the delivery of a new partnership with Hywel Dda University Health Board to provide a dedicated 24/7 patient transport service, operating Monday to Sunday.
The service will be delivered by Delta Wellbeing’s community response team, supporting the safe and timely transport of:
The newly introduced Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle ensures that patients who use wheelchairs can travel comfortably and safely, with vehicles fully equipped to support a range of mobility needs.
This service operates through Hywel Dda’s Single Point of Access (SPoA), ensuring coordinated, responsive transport for eligible patients. It plays a vital role in improving patient flow, supporting hospital discharge, reducing delays, and ensuring people receive the right care in the right place at the right time.
Response Manager Sarah Poulton said: “We are committed to improving the support we provide to communities across Carmarthenshire. The introduction of our new Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles will ensure we can respond more effectively to patient needs while supporting the health board to deliver safe, timely and person centred care.”
The service forms part of ongoing collaborative work between Delta Wellbeing and Hywel Dda University Health Board to improve access to essential services, reduce pressures on clinical teams, and support better outcomes for individuals.
Andrew Carruthers, Chief Operating Officer at Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “I am pleased that Delta Wellbeing has acquired a new Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle. This will make such a difference to those patients who use wheelchairs and need more support to access health care. Our recent engagement events have shown how important suitable transport is, especially in rural areas of Hywel Dda, so this is really good news.”
Delta Wellbeing is a Local Authority Trading Company, owned by Carmarthenshire County Council, which provides assistive technology, proactive monitoring and response services to support individuals across Wales to live independently and safely at home.
