Mid-market private equity investor, LDC, has backed the management buyout of Taking Care Personal Alarms from AXA Health.
LDC is the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group. The investment will support Taking Care’s management team, led by CEO Steve Gates, to further expand its services and support more vulnerable people to live independently at home.
Founded in 1985, Taking Care is one of the UK’s leading providers of personal alarms. The company supports over 150,000 customers across the UK with its range of personal alarm services, enabling them to live safely and independently in their own homes. In 2024, Taking Care resolved over 1.4 million emergency alarm calls, saving the NHS an estimated £85 million.
The investment from LDC will enable Taking Care to continue its growth journey to support the increasing number of older adults who are looking for technology to support them as they live independently at home. The company is at the forefront of the UK’s transition from analogue to digital telephone lines, and the investment will support its mission to create new, accessible digital solutions during this period of strong growth within the UK telecare market.
“We are delighted to partner with LDC for the next stage of our journey, following eight years of great support from AXA Health. We know that LDC are aligned with our focus on investing for growth and ensuring that a growing number of customers can benefit from modern, digital technology enabled care and new prevention solutions – and remain in their own homes for longer,” commented Steve Gates, CEO of Taking Care.
Oliver Schofield, Investment Director at LDC, added, “An increasing number of older adults are looking for the latest in monitoring technology to support them as they live independently at home and Taking Care’s services have a real positive impact on customers’ lives. We’re excited to partner with Steve and the rest of the management team and to support their ambition to create new digital solutions to meet the needs of the UK’s ageing population.”
